Should Procrastination Be the Formalin for Time

Self-exploration Through Classical Techniques

Should Procrastination Be the Formalin for Time is a collaborative exhibition by six students from Shih Hsin University's Photography Program. The exhibition showcases the works of these creators who have grown up immersed in the speed and digitalization of the 21st century. However, they are no longer willing to conform to contemporary societal trends or embrace the increasingly superficial consumerism. Instead, they have embarked on a journey to critically examine various aspects of life and explore the core of their own identities.

In this exhibition, they place themselves at the centre, utilising the wet plate photographic technique, a classical method, to explore whether "the modern pursuit of speed can bridge the past and the future." They aim to address questions such as, "Does a faster pace necessarily equate to a better life?" and "In an era saturated with post-digital information overload, what form of messages can we leave for the future?"

CONCEPT OF KEY VISUAL

The key visual of the exhibition integrates illustrations of the wet plate photographic process that underlies the exhibited works. This design communicates the central theme of the exhibition: "the process of self-discovery through meticulous and unhurried engagement with classical photographic techniques." It deliberately embodies a pattern of "absence of a specific subject, experimentation, and self-exploration," in line with the exhibition's concept, which does not adhere to any particular content or value framework. Instead, it focuses on the creators' self as the core of their artistic expression, linking the minutiae of daily life and social realities. This approach infuses the works with multiple layers of meaning, inviting viewers to partake in a visual dialogue.
